At a glance
- Confirm the accommodation address and arrival arrangements.
- Count passengers, suitcases and ski equipment separately.
- Plan the return around the flight or train you need to catch.
Start with the accommodation and its entrance
La Clusaz, Le Grand-Bornand, Chamonix, Megève and Val d’Isère include different neighbourhoods and accommodation settings. When requesting a transfer, add the exact chalet, hotel or residence address to the resort name. Ask your host about the entrance, key collection and where to unload your cases. A meeting point outside reception can be more useful than a pin on a map, particularly when you are travelling with children and several people need to find the same place.
Make a practical equipment inventory
List large suitcases, travel bags, ski bags, snowboards, boot bags and pushchairs. For a shared ski bag, describe the contents and approximate size. If some of the group will hire equipment in the resort, mention that too: it changes the load you need to carry. Keep medicines, documents and anything needed during the journey within reach. This inventory helps you organise departure and spot a missing item when you pack for the return trip.
Choose the vehicle around the load
The anthracite grey BMW 5 Series Touring carries up to four passengers; the black Mercedes Vito carries up to eight, depending on luggage. With ski equipment, the actual group and volume need to be checked before confirmation. Do not assume how much space is available from the number of seats alone. For family travel, give the children’s ages and ask for confirmation of the arrangements they need. Mention any particular requirements during your first exchange.
Connect the train or flight arrival with the transfer
From Geneva Airport or a railway station, provide the flight or train reference, date and a contact for someone in the group. Allow for collecting your luggage before going to the meeting point agreed with the driver. If people arrive separately, list their different times and ask whether a shared pick-up is practical. For a departure in Annecy, a full address and an easy-to-identify waiting point are still the most useful starting details.
Leave some flexibility on arrival day
Mountain traffic and access conditions can change. Check the road information shared by the resort and keep your host’s contact details handy. Avoid scheduling an essential activity immediately after your expected arrival: collecting keys, hiring equipment and settling in also take organisation. If your accommodation is not ready, ask your host whether there is somewhere to leave luggage. Any waiting time or extra stop during the transfer should be discussed in advance so it can be included in the agreed journey.
Plan the last morning when you book
Departure day often brings together checking out, returning hired equipment and catching a connection. Gather your flight or train departure time, pick-up address and your host’s check-out instructions. Check when you can return hired skis and have every bag ready. Then ask Aller-Retour 74 to agree a pick-up time. Providing return details at the outset allows both journeys to be considered together, with price and availability confirmed separately for each one before you finalise the arrangements.
Your questions
Should we mention skis even if there are only two of us?
Yes. Passenger numbers do not describe the space taken up by ski bags, boots and suitcases. Share quantities and approximate dimensions for bulky items so loading space can be checked for the proposed vehicle.
Can we stop somewhere before reaching the chalet?
Give the address, purpose and preferred arrangements when making your request. Collecting keys or equipment changes the journey. Feasibility and price need to be agreed before confirmation.
